Helping Low-Income Families Access Vital Tax Preparation Services

Hi Brigade Leaders,

Tax season is upon us, and Code for America’s Get Your Refund team along with a team of volunteers is working hard to decrease the participation gap in the Earned Income Tax Credit, which provides critical cash to low-income families.

There are informational sessions next Wednesday, January 13 at 7pm ET, and Saturday, January 16 at 12pm ET on how to get involved. Can you please share this opportunity with your Brigades? And ask folks in your Brigade to share with their Networks?

You can do so by:

  1. Retweeting this tweet

  2. Sharing this NYT article published today about the Get Your Refund work and volunteer power, and

  3. Sending the below email to your Brigade.

Thanks!

Economic Justice Opportunity:

Helping Low-Income Families Access Vital Tax Preparation Services

Passionate about economic justice? Can you help power and scale a digital service product helping to lift millions of low-income families out of poverty by putting flexible cash from unclaimed tax credits in their hands?

Our team is gearing up for the 2021 tax season after a successful pilot year, and we urgently need your help to create unprecedented access to thousands of dollars in flexible cash for as many eligible families as possible. We cannot scale the product and bring on more community partners serving low-income families without enough volunteers.

Join an upcoming volunteer kickoff event to find out how you can use your tech, research, project management, translation, and other skills to help people claim this credit.

We have sessions on January 13 at 7pm ET and January 16 at 12pm ET. People of all abilities and time commitments are welcome! (No tax filing expertise necessary!)

We worked with VITA to help prepare 31,507 tax returns, delivering at least $62.6 million to low-income families. Learn more about why we love the EITC and how GetYourRefund works in this blog post.
