2022 Highlights & Happy Holidays!

:mega: OFFICE CLOSURE: Please note that Code for America will be closed from December 23 - January 2 for the Winter Holidays.

Happy Holidays from the Network Team! Before we ring in the new year, we’d like to take some time to reflect on highlights from this year. In the last newsletter, we shared some news about Impact Sprints and Brigade Congress. Here are some other great moments from 2022. 📸

Direct Democracy Series

This year, the Network convened a series of six public, monthly workshops on community organizing and how to create distributed leadership, deliberation, and clear decision-making processes led by Sierra Ramírez. Learn more by checking out the decks, recordings, and materials from throughout the series. This core concepts deck is a great primer, and our Discourse has all the materials as well.

Reimagine 911 Recap

Reimagine 911 prototyped a system for identifying calls that 911 can serve without deploying law enforcement. In the last twelve months, over 400 people reviewed 128 cities and standardized 340,743 individual 911 calls! :phone: See what we learned in this Discourse post!

Broadband / Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP)

For the first time ever, we rolled out an action component at Brigade Congress—and this year’s theme was digital equity. We hosted a panel with experts working to close the broadband access gap, and then 30+ volunteers helped community members sign up for the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) in-person in St. Louis. We also created an ACP Event Toolkit.

Māʻawe Pono Indigenous Research Course

This past summer, we launched Māʻawe Pono, a new course exploring how Brigades might carry out impactful community-based research projects in Indigenous and diverse communities. Thanks to everyone who joined last month’s working session on the Māʻawe Pono methodology. :books:

Gratitude Tour

Lastly, we’re doing the Gratitude Tour again! Don’t forget to get your shoutouts in by December 20 to thank a person in your Brigade or the Network community that has impacted you. You can write them a note of appreciation in this quick Gratitude Form. :love_letter:

That’s a wrap for 2022…

Happy Holidays and warm wishes for the New Year! :dizzy:
