With the sunsetting of the Brigade Program, we have made the difficult decision to phase out our community Discourse and Slack. We understand that these community tools have been invaluable in creating space for our volunteer community to grow and in fostering the collaborative culture that we have today.
We are truly grateful for the contributions that each and every one of you has made to this community, and we want to assure you that this decision was not taken lightly. While we are sad to see these tools go, it is our hope that we can explore new ways to connect and collaborate with one another, and we look forward to engaging with you in the future. Please see below for further details and information.
Important Dates (in Pacific Time)
- Friday, June 30 at 11:59 p.m.: Final time Discourse will be open for activity. At midnight, the forum will be ‘frozen’ and remain as a public archive.
- Friday, December 22 at 4:59 p.m.: Final time Slack will be available. At 5 p.m., the workspace will be shut down and your Slack profile will be deactivated.
What’s Happening with Discourse?
Since 2018, this Discourse forum has been a space for building and sharing institutional knowledge across the Brigade Network.
This Discourse forum will remain open until Friday, June 30, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. PT. After June 30th, we will be keeping the site publicly accessible so that the information and resources developed on Discourse can continue to be used. However, users will no longer be able to create and edit posts, leave comments, send direct messages, and create groups. If you are an existing user, you will still be able to log in and export data from your account.
All user profiles will be hidden after June 30th, however, you are free to hide your profile before then.
Additionally, you will have the option to request for your profile to be ‘Anonymized’ by filling out the Discourse Anonymization Request Form. We will be accepting anonymization requests past June 30th.
What’s Happening with Slack?
Ten years ago, we created this workspace as part of our Brigade Program to provide a place of ongoing connection for our Brigade volunteer community.
The Code for America Slack workspace will be available and can continue to be used as usual until Friday, December 22, 2023 at 4:59 p.m. PT. At 5 p.m. PT, Slack will no longer be accessible and your Slack profile will be deactivated.
If you are already on our Slack workspace, you will still be able to request to add someone into the workspace.
What To Do Now
We encourage you to export data, manage your privacy and edit/remove content you would like to be taken down. Please review this resource to learn more about the steps you can take to manage your Discourse and Slack profile: Exporting Data and Managing Your Profile: Discourse & Slack
We want to acknowledge that this is a big change and we appreciate your continued patience and understanding. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at brigade-info@codeforamerica.org.
Thank you,
Local Initiatives Team
