The 2020 Census is a nationwide count of all people living in the United States that occurs only once every ten years. The Census is extremely important because it determines representation in the US Congress as well as how federal funds are distributed. It’s vital that everyone complete the Census.
However, misinformation and disinformation can discourage people from filling out the Census Rumors and confusion around the citizenship question can discourage hard to count communities from filling out the Census and results in those communities having less of a voice in future decision making.
To combat misinformation and disinformation efforts, the US Census has created a Trust and Safety Team to ensure the public is properly educated on how the 2020 Census affects everyone.
