We’re looking for academics/historians in the network to work on a project about historical perspectives on civic tech and civic reform movements
thinking of finding 3-4 historical inspirations for civictech brigades and summarizing them in a medium article… it could be 1) rotarians and similar fraternal groups 2) the charitable mechanics and artisan republicanism, 3) the model republic movement, 4) the civilian conservation corps
oh also 5) the good government movement ("goo-goos")
it would go through each and give a summary of the similarities, and lessons modern civic tech might learn from each either positive or negative and then articulate the importance of historical storytelling as a core brigade function to uncover a “usable past” and “look forward by looking backward”
want to write the post or series of posts sometime in January
appreciate any help tracking down brigades that have engaged with history and people in the network that may have knowledge on this
