Not sure where to place this, but could be a key part of how brigades grow with different kinds of connections to PI technologists in or recently graduated from these and other universities.
The Public Interest Technology Universities Network is a partnership that fosters collaboration between 21 universities and colleges committed to building the nascent field of public interest technology and growing a new generation of civic-minded technologists. https://www.newamerica.org/public-interest-technology/university-network/about-pitun/
Is there a way for universities not in this network to join in the future, @JBStephens?
Carl - sorry for the slow reply. I have not tried, but per the end of the article, the contact person is: https://www.newamerica.org/our-people/andreen-soley/
@carlvlewis - an update per universities joining https://www.newamerica.org/public-interest-technology/university-network/about-pitun/ New America staff and some university participants met May 29 and @eturkel and I attended. They will have some process set in the coming months for adding colleges and universities. Their next PIT-UN meeting will be in early October, location TBD. As noted above, best contact person is https://www.newamerica.org/our-people/andreen-soley/
I am working with all the local Universities based in Miami a part of this network on a few projects. A part of my goal was to highlight existing projects done by brigades and compensate them for their time for assisting with projects. Right now, I have Code for Miami and Open Austin.
If you want to be kept in the loop of this effort just heart this message. Iām especially looking to get captains and brigade leads onboard as I think this makes for excellent cross-brigade collaboration opportunities.
Thanks, Gregory. Do keep me in the loop please, stephens@sog.unc.edu
One more piece, Gregory. Please let @e9turkel and I know about your work, or just add to our google doc about university-brigade connections - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1d6tZsbmiKeujvlWvlI_kOEi9d09BlCJY6zniVAntVF8/edit#heading=h.p4pwmkqd3kwy
HiGregory - any news on this project, please?
Hi folks, so Miami was fortunate to have 2 Universities get awards but only 1 working with the brigade through an idea I championed from both sides of my work.
- Miami Dade College | Participatory Budget [Partnered with Code for Miami and Open Austin]
- Florida International University | Fellows Program [ No Brigade partner but working on it]
