Join the Network Re-visioning Team 🚀

Change is coming, is necessary, and has been asked for by many within the network for some time. - Meredith Horowski, Senior Director of the Brigade Network

Join the Network Revisioning Team :milky_way::rocket::sparkles::seedling:

Nearly a decade since starting our volunteer Brigade program, it’s time for our Brigade Network to redefine our purpose and choose a clear path forward. What kind of change do we want to make in the world? Where do we – as individual volunteers and as a collective Network – have the most impact? How can we bring more clarity to the relationship between the Network and Code for America’s mission?

If these are the questions you’re interested in exploring, join like-minded peers on Code for America’s Network Revisioning Team! We are a small group of brigade members and Code for America staff who have created theories of change describing how the potential pathways forward could play out. As we move to engage more broadly with the Brigade Network and other Code for America stakeholders, we hope to grow our team to support reaching as many people as possible.

Here are a few ways to plug in:

Data Operations

While last year’s Brigade Organizers Playbook Revision process, Pol.is survey and Hattaway survey built a robust data set that is helping inform our next steps, we already see the need to collect more information on the changes being considered. Do you have experience running focus groups, analyzing data, or creating data visualizations? If so, this might be the role for you!
* Estimated time commitment: March 1-April 1 (qual data collection), April 1-15 (analysis), April 15-April 30 (visualizations)

Communications and Graphics

Theories of change can be tough to translate into engaging messaging campaigns. So far, we’ve got a David Bowie meme. Think you can do better? Then this is the role for you! We plan to release compelling infographics, emails, and other media to support engaging our peers around these changes. If you have experience working in Venngage, crafting messaging campaigns, and managing communication distribution, consider volunteering here!

Product Management & Development

We’re currently exploring using a particpatory tool like Decidim or Loomio to be a key feature of this Change work. Do you have experience building and implementing new participatory tools? This group is for you! We’re looking for someone who can project manage for the implementation of a participatory tool, and for a few people to pitch in on development. Note that these roles first require some working group time to scope the project. We anticipate a time commitment of 3 hours/ week from March through June, with the potential for ongoing engagement with the working group.

Strategic Planning and Facilitation

The ongoing data collection and communication will culminate in a decision point about the path forward for the Brigade Network. If you’ve got skill and interest in facilitating conversations about this decision, there will definitely be work that interests you.
